Wet method: The corn is soaked in water, and after soaking the corn is crushed and de-sterilized, after which the germ and starch are separated by a rotary liquid separator. The germ must be dried after extraction because the moist germ is prone to deterioration. This method consumes more energy, causes some pollution to the environment, and has high investment and production costs for machinery and equipment.
Semi-wet method: The germ and endosperm of maize have different water content and water absorption, and the elasticity, toughness and crushing strength of both are changed after absorbing water. Using this feature will be half-wet corn for crushing, peeling and sterilizing and then separated by press flat sieve, endosperm and germ will be sorted effectively. The method has low energy consumption, no pollution, low investment in equipment and low production cost.
After getting the germ, you can extract the corn germ oil, which can be extracted by physical pressing method and solvent extraction method. Large-scale oil factories usually use solvent extraction to extract corn germ oil, and the pressing method is suitable for small and medium-sized oil extraction factories, which can meet the production tasks by using screw oil presses.
